Goal Setting Tips

“...what we do today. Right now, will have an accumulated effect on all our tomorrows.”

-Alexandra Stoddard

Tip 1:

Make your goals SMART!

S - Specific: Make it clear, not ambiguous.

M - Measurable: Gives a tangible way to know if you have accomplished your goal.

A - Attainable: Can you achieve it? Is it possible?

R - Realistic: Can you do it within the parameters and timeline you have set?

T - Timely: Put a deadline on it. Later means never.

Tip 2:

Start small.

Setting goals can be overwhelming for someone who isn’t used to it. For some, making a plan for tomorrow is a foreign concept, much less making a plan for a year down the road. Remember that this isn’t about controlling your life, it is about being intentional in the roles and responsibilities that you have been given. It’s ok if you only set one or two long term goals for the year. You have to start somewhere!

Tip 3:

One step at a time.

Once you set your goals, it is time to ACT! Act today with the time and resources you have been entrusted with. What can you do with where you are today to move toward your goals in the future? The way this looks practically is to set your short term goals in small chunks. You have set your goals for the year, now decide what your short term goal is this month, and how that will help get you one step closer to that long term goal. At the end of the month, take a look at where you are at, and reset for the next month to take one more step towards your year-end goal.

Tip 4:

Pray.

We don’t have our tomorrows, but God does. He already has a plan for your life and he wants to be involved in this process. Are your goals in line with what He is speaking to you? Take the time to ask.

Tip 5:

Go deeper.

If you want to go deeper, we would love to see you at our Goal Setting Workshop on March 21st. Find more info HERE. We can’t wait to meet you!
